Field trips

Field trips will be held on Wednesday 18 October 2017 and are in addition to conference registration. Field trips are only open to registered delegates of ACCESS 2017.

FIELD TRIP 1: QUEENSLAND CULTURAL CENTRE (QCC) PRECINCT

Date: Wednesday 18 October 2017
Time: 11.30am - 2.30pm*
Cost: SOLD OUT

What an opportunity to experience the world with a person who can’t see, even better when that world includes better than best practice guidance such as TGSI’s, compliant stairways and ramps, raised tactile and Braille signs and maps, and active use of luminance contrast to assist with detection, orientation and movement. The field trip through the Queensland Cultural Centre precinct will be just that, taking in both external and internal built environments. Numbers are limited but for those who are lucky enough to get a spot, we will walk or roll through much of the QCC precinct with a first time visitor who is Legally Blind and hear from her exactly what she is experiencing, good or bad.

*Time is subject to change at the discretion of the Organising Committee and Conference Organisers.

FIELD TRIP 2: THE SLEEMAN CENTRE ANNA MEARES VELODROME

Date: Wednesday 18 October 2017
Time: 11.30am - 3.30pm*
Cost: $85 per person (includes return transport and lunch)

The Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games (GC2018) is only 169 days from ACCESS 2017. It will be the largest sporting event Australia will see this decade and the biggest sporting spectacular the Gold Coast has ever seen. This field trip will provide delegates with the opportunity to visit one of the venues, The Sleeman Centre Anna Meares Velodrome, the venue for the cycling for The Games. Delegates will be able to gain an understanding of how the venue will operate in Games Mode, gain insights into how The Games have been planned and what the future benefits will be for all users. Numbers limited. Bus transportation will be provided.

*Time is subject to change at the discretion of the Organising Committee and Conference Organisers.
