ORAL PRESENTATION INSTRUCTIONS

Microsoft PowerPoint is to be the only software used for your presentation.  The Symposium auditorium will be equipped with a lectern with microphone, a laptop with your pre-loaded PowerPoint presentation, a data projector, and a laser pointer. Please be aware that you cannot use your own laptop for your presentation. A monitor will be located at the front near the lectern which will display your PowerPoint presentation. Please be advised that this screen only replicates the PowerPoint and does not display any notes you have made in the PowerPoint screen. Should you need notes for your presentation it is advised that these be printed out for your own convenience. Other equipment must be outlined on the Audio-Visual request form by 22 August 2016

Oral presentations are to be prepared for 15 minutes duration, allowing 5 minutes for questions. 

Please prepare your PowerPoint presentation in standard format (4:3).

Suggestions for PowerPoint presentations

  • Use dark primary colours for text and light colours for background
  • Lettering to be at least 0.7 cm in height (Size 14+ font)
  • No more than six (6) to eight (8) words per line
  • Ideally - six (6) lines or less per slide/overhead
  • Use upper / lower case text – (all capitals is almost unreadable)
  • Use the ‘text-build’ feature to stop the audience reading ahead of you
  • Audio sounds such as bells, whistles, zooming sounds etc., and clichéd Clipart are not recommended.
  • Graphs and graphics that are too detailed or condensed should be converted to a suitable size/format for projection
  • Ensure all support files are included if using embedded video clips

All PowerPoint presentations should be forwarded to krysty@icebergevents.com.au by no later than 1 November 2016. Please include your surname followed by your first initial and QPAS2016 as part of the PowerPoint file name – eg SimpsonH QPAS2016.pptx

3 MINUTE ORAL POSTER INSTRUCTIONS

All presentations must be 3 minutes and no more than 3 slides in length. To accompany your 3 minute oral you are required to prepare a poster. Posters may be presented as hardcopy poster or and electronic poster, please see guidelines below.

3-minute oral poster presentations are restricted to three (3) static power-point slides only.

Please prepare your PowerPoint presentation in standard format (4:3).

POSTER

Posters will be presented as a hardcopy poster, please use the following instructions when preparing your poster.

Hard Copy Posters

  • The poster size is A0 (841 mm wide x 1188 mm high). Poster orientation must be portrait
  • It is the author’s responsibility to place their posters on the boards using Velcro (authors to supply own Velcro)
  • Posters are numbered. Please ensure your poster is placed under the correct number
  • The poster title should appear across the top of the poster. The recommended size for lettering of titles is 25mm high e.g. Arial font size 96 in bold face type
  • The author/s name, address and organisation should appear below the title in 24 – 32 point font
  • The recommended minimum size for headings and sub-headings is 15 mm high e.g. Arial font size 48 point in bold face type
  • The recommended minimum size of letters in the text is 8 mm high e.g. Arial font size 32 point. Recommended line spacing is at least 1.5
  • The logos of the author/s and any assisting organisations should be placed in an appropriate position, usually at the bottom of the poster
  • Use contrasting colours where appropriate in charts, diagrams etc.
  • If you wish to present your poster on a freestanding banner, please contact Krysty Monks at Iceberg Events via email (krysty@icebergevents.com.au)
