Dr Smith is a clinician-scientist specialising in cardiopulmonary and aerospace physiology and in anaesthetics. He is an experienced flying doctor and a former South Australian Rhodes Scholar and Churchill Fellow. Originally from Adelaide, Dr Smith has been based in the UK for about 15 years, initially at the University of Oxford and more recently at King’s College London. His current research is focussed on human centrifuge studies exploring physiological effects of high-G acceleration that are particularly relevant to upcoming commercial suborbital spaceflights. He also leads a master’s degree in space physiology in collaboration with the European Space Agency’s Astronaut Centre.
