    Andrew Bryett RN, MIT

    Andrew has over 25 years’ experience in the healthcare sector, during this time he has fulfilled clinical and managerial roles in acute hospital settings in Australia and internationally. Andrew has also worked in the areas of health informatics, clinical service redesign and knowledge support. Currently he is a Director in the Healthcare Improvement Unit within the Queensland Department of Health. He has responsibility for the statewide telehealth program and oversight of the teams coordinating the statewide Clinical Networks and Queensland Clinical Senate.

    Dr Victoria (Tori) Wade is a general practitioner and psychologist, Senior Research Fellow with the Discipline of General Practice at The University of Adelaide, Clinical Director of the Adelaide Unicare e-Health and Telehealth Unit, Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Telemedicine and Telecare, and Vice President of the Australasian Telehealth Society. She completed a PhD two years ago on the uptake and sustainability of telehealth services in Australia. Previously, Tori Wade was the Medical Director and CEO of the SA Divisions of General Practice, where she focused on health systems and services development and reform.

    Professor of Geriatric Medicine at the University of Queensland, Australia

    Professor Len Gray is Professor of Geriatric Medicine at the University of Queensland where his current academic appointments are as Director of the Centre for Research in Geriatric Medicine and the Centre for Online Health. He holds clinical appointments as Senior Consultant Geriatrician, Princess Alexandra Hospital, Brisbane and Visiting Physician (Geriatrician) Dalby Hospital.  

    He is a Board Member of the interRAI Research Collaborative, an international working group of researchers developing assessment protocols, data sets and quality tools for aged care and related fields.

    His research interests focus on aged care policy, models of aged care service delivery, assessment and care planning systems, and e-Health and telemedicine strategies. He has secured over $6m in competitive research grants in the last 5 years and has led 6 NHMRC grants as principle investigator. Most recently, he led a successful application for a NHMRC Centre for Research Excellence (CRE) which encompasses an extensive 5 year program of research in Telehealth which commenced in 2013.

    Professor of Primary Care Health Sciences and Fellow of Green Templeton College at the University of Oxford

    Trish Greenhalgh is Professor of Primary Care Health Sciences and Fellow of Green Templeton College at the University of Oxford. She studied Medical, Social and Political Sciences at Cambridge and Clinical Medicine at Oxford before training as an academic GP. She has previously worked at University College London (1986-2010) and Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry (2010-2014).

    Trish leads a programme of research at the interface between the social sciences and medicine. Her work seeks to celebrate and retain the traditional and the humanistic aspects of medicine and healthcare while also embracing the unparalleled opportunities of contemporary science and technology to improve health outcomes and relieve suffering. Three particular interests are the health needs and illness narratives of minority and disadvantaged groups; the introduction of technology-based innovations in healthcare; and the complex links (philosophical and empirical) between research, policy and practice.  She is the author of 250 peer-reviewed publications and 8 textbooks.  She was awarded the OBE for Services to Medicine by Her Majesty the Queen in 2001 and made a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences in 2014.

    Abdel-rahman is the Manager of South Australia’s Digital Telehealth Network.  Abdel has been involved in the development of the network since inception.  His work with clinicians has focused on building a service that supports remote clinical assessment.  Abdel is passionate about improving clinical outcomes especially for rural and remote consumers of health services.

    Abdel has been working in the health industry for over five years in various roles including Business Analysis and Project Management.  He has worked on IT implementation projects in the areas of patient administration, patient identification, radiology, security and most recently Telehealth.

    My position of Senior Project Manager is responsible for leading the establishment of the South Australian Country Cancer Service, which includes 15 chemotherapy units. 

    My role is responsible for working with metropolitan cancer services to support country cancer patients to be treated closer to home. This is inclusive of undertaking treatment closer to home, whilst also supporting the uptake of telemedicine opportunities, preventing patients travelling unnecessarily to metropolitan Adelaide for review appointments.

    Previous career highlights include our team winning the SA Health Award for ‘Enhancing Hospital Care’ in 2013 and the National Lead Clinicians Group ‘Award for excellence in innovative implementations of clinical practice’ in 2014 – each for the work in establishing the Country Cancer Service.

    Amy Clark is a division 1 registered nurse with a background in acute and emergency nursing, project management and a post graduate qualification in Clinical Research.  Amy has a keen interest in telemedicine and has previously undertaken 2 projects in this area.  Amy is the Clinical Program Manager at Bendigo and District Aboriginal Cooperative in Victoria and sees telemedicine as a way for improving access to mainstream services for Aboriginal people, particularly in regional and remote areas of Australia.  Amy has worked in partnership with VACCHO to increase the access to Specialist via Telehealth consultations.

    Dr Anna Finnane is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Dermatology Research Centre, with a background in public health and epidemiology. She has particular interests in study design and outcome measures in health research, and the impact of these on the success of translational research.  Dr Finnane has training and experience in quantitative research methodologies and statistical methods and has taught Epidemiology and Research Methods units across multiple health disciplines. Her current interests are in exploring the barriers preventing successful translation of research into Telehealth practice.

    Associate Professor Anthony Smith is the Deputy Director of the University of Queensland’s Centre for Online Health (COH) in Brisbane.  He has more than 15 years’ experience establishing, managing and evaluating a broad range of telehealth programs, principally in paediatrics and more recently in the adult and aged care disciplines.  Dr Smith is a chief investigator of the NHMRC Centre of Research Excellence (CRE) in Telehealth, focussing on telehealth applications in ‘small rural’ and ‘Indigenous’ communities.  He is also the President of the Australasian Telehealth Society and scientific program chair for the SFT Conference.

    Carolyn is a Registered Nurse and Midwife with Qualifications in Child and Family Health, Immunisation, Rural and Isolated Practice, Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.
    Carolyn currently holds the position of Clinical Nurse Consultant /Telehealth Coordinator for the Darling Downs Hospital and Health Service.
    Her keen interest in service improvement together with the ability to engage, educate and coach clinicians in Telehealth processes has seen an increase in the uptake of services across all specialities. She is driven to achieve results by challenging the norm to enhance the patient’s experience throughout the health care journey and provide more care locally.
    During the past 12 months she has assisted in enhancing the Antenatal Telehealth Model, Hospital in the Home Telehealth Model and TeleDentistry for residents in DDHHS Aged Care Facilities to receive oral health care without the need to leave their homes maintaining comfort and continuity of care.

    Dr David Evans has qualifications in Medicine, IT, OH&S and Medical Administration. His standards and electronic health record involvement commenced in the 90s with the National EHR Task Force then Health Connect and finally NEHTA. He was a member of HealthConnect. He remains a NEHTA Clinical Advisor passionate about holistic safety in health ICT systems design along with information overload and knowledge management, classifications and terminologies and developing a SEHR for Telehealth episodes. He is Co-Chair for the Australian Clinical Terminology User Group. He takes pride in having played a role in bringing SNOMED-CT to Australia. He is on three IT14 subcommittees and on the Quality Assurance Subcommittee of IHTSDO and previously the Content Committee. He is a QH Clinical Advisor in eHealth and clinical sponsor of Queensland's electronic enterprise discharge summary, e-referral and The Viewer projects. He is a member of the QH Architecture and Standards Board.

    Dr. Di Xiao obtained his Ph.D from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, 2004. From 2002-2007, he worked at Singapore General Hospital and National University Hospital, Singapore as a scientist and senior research fellow for medical robotic system development. During the period, he also worked at James P. Wilmot Cancer Centre, University of Rochester, USA as visiting instructor and project consultant. He joint CSIRO in 2007. Now, he is working at telehealth team in Australian e-Health Research Centre, CSIRO as a scientist. In the past 5 years, Dr. Xiao focused on retinal image processing method for eye disease related feature detection and also worked on clinical decision support approach for telemedicine application. The new algorithms he developed for retinal image processing and DR feature detection as well as telemedicine system has been applied for patent. His main research interest is medical image processing, medical robotic system and telemedicine system.

    Elaine, a Churchill Fellow, has a Master of Clinical Audiology from the University of Manchester and a PhD in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Southampton.  She is an Adjunct Professor and member of the Biodevices Advisory Board for Swinburne University and is a former Non-Executive Director of Alfred Health.

    Jacinta Collins is a Division 1 nurse with a Master of Health Sciences and Graduate Diploma of Health Administration. Jacinta’s particular passion is tackling diverse change management challenges across acute/primary and public/private healthcare sectors. Jacinta has a strong action research background with a particular emphasis on chronic disease care in culturally diverse and socially disadvantaged communities.
    Currently Jacinta is the Telehealth Support Officer at VACCHO where she is promoting the uptake of Telehealth services to specialist medical services in the twenty four member Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services (ACCHOs) across rural and regional Victoria. Support and education is provided to embed technical and patient-focused videoconferencing protocols and practices and to encourage best practice in the management of patient information, billing, patient records and procedures around Telehealth consultations.

Jayne holds a concurrent position as clinical educator for the Nutrition and Dietetics Department at the Toowoomba Hospital, supporting students and supervisors during practical placements.     As the Research Support Manager at Silver Chain,  Joanna has worked on numerous research studies that have benefited older people.  Over the last few years, Joanna has commenced research for Silver Chain in the field of telehealth, specifically remote monitoring of chronic disease. To date, this research has shown that for older people with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, remote monitoring of their symptoms results in a measurable improvement in quality of life, reduced feelings of anxiety, a greater feeling of control over their disease as well a substantially reducing hospital admissions. This research has led to Silver Chain being funded for a respiratory model of care utilising telehealth to improve health outcomes for older people who use domiciliary oxygen.

She transitioned to this role in early 2014 following 18 months as the Service Manager for the Princess Alexandra Hospital’s Telehealth Centre. Her role is focused on supporting the promotion and expansion of telehealth services within Metro South Health and to rural and remote areas of Queensland. Karen has a background in project administration, ICT management and Telehealth services. Previously she worked for the Centre for Online Health at the Royal Children’s Hospital in the early days of the Telepaediatric service as well as in the areas of rural paediatric allied health services and rural medical education.

He is an executive member of the Australasian Telehealth Society. Liam is an associate investigator of the National Health and Medical Research Council’s Centre for Research Excellence in Telehealth.

    He is actively involved in telehealth service delivery via his work programs including: Res-e-care, Health-e-regions, PAH Telehealth Centre and Queensland Telepaediatric Service. He has an active research agenda in health services research and health informatics with a special interest in imaging informatics, Indigenous health and rural health.

    My key responsibilities are business development, quality improvement and overseeing the general running of the Business.  I also provide strategic support to the Associate Doctors in the management of the business with a significant focus for the past 18 months on the development of a new purpose built health precinct for our practice and community.

    My experience is in business and frontline management and I achieved my Diploma in Practice Management in 2012 through UNE Partnerships.

    Mary has received training in Psychology, Bioinformatics, Health Information Management, and Health Informatics. She is also a Certified Health Informatician (CHIA) and a lecturer in e-Health at the University of Sydney.  As an e-health professional, she was working in the New South Wales Health sector for a number of years before joining the University of Sydney as an academic. She is currently the Deputy Course Director of the Bachelor of Health Science program offered by the Faculty of Health Sciences.  Mary is also an active researcher in the area of e-Health education and has been leading a number of eHealth-related studies, such as the longitudinal study into allied health students’ attitude towards eHealth and their readiness in engaging in eHealth upon graduation.  Mary also has research expertise is the area of big data analysis and record linkage, and has been developing local and international collaborative studies in the area.

    Maurice Mars MBChB, MD is Professor and Head of the Dept of TeleHealth at the Nelson R Mandela School of Medicine at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. He is the founding President of the South African Telemedicine Association. Mars is active in eHealth capacity development and chairs the International Society for Telemedicine and eHealth’s Education Working Group, serves on the Telemedicine Working Group of the International Medical Informatics Association and is chair of the American Telemedicine Association’s International Special Interest Group. With over 20 years in eHealth he has published widely, is a founding editor of the Journal of the International Society for Telemedicine and eHealth and serves on several editorial boards. His Department provides postgraduate education in both medical informatics and telemedicine with over 100 postgraduate students in nine countries in Africa and Asia. He sees eHealth as the future for health care delivery in Africa.

    Michael Williams is Director of Child & Adolescent Health Service at Mackay Base Hospital, Queensland. He has been a paediatrician in Mackay for over 30 years, providing outreach clinics and Telehealth support for rural sites. He has worked as a paediatrician in UK, Saudi Arabia and Canada. 

    Over the last 18 years he has undertaken telehealth consultation with associated research conducted in conjunction with UQ Centre for Online Health. He has developed a telepaediatric service which provides sub specialty consultation for the patients of his region, as well as general paediatric consultation for those at rural sites.

    He has recently taken up the ½ time role of Director of Children’s Advice & Transport Coordination Hub (CATCH) within Childrens Health Qld, based at the LCCH. This aims to improve support for rural doctors and their paediatric patients, increasing care of children in their community and facilitate transport planning when needed.

Ms Cottrell comes from a clinical background of musculoskeletal physiotherapy.

    Dr Monique Hines is a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of Sydney. As a member of the Wobbly Hub Rural Research Team, she conducts research into the delivery of allied health services for people with disability living in rural and remote areas. She is a speech pathologist, and is specifically interested in the use of technology in the delivery of speech pathology services. She is currently conducting a range of projects in this field, including an evaluation of a comprehensive speech pathology teletherapy program incorporating mixed methods. She is a member of the Interdisciplinary e-Health Advancement and Research Team (IeHART) at the University of Sydney and is involved in a qualitative exploration of the opportunities for eHealth in supporting interdisciplinary allied health practice in brain injury.

    Having completed my specialist training in Palliative Medicine in Ireland I relocated to Australia in 2014 and worked as a Palliative Care Fellow in Barwon Health, Geelong for a year. I am now working as a Palliative Care Specialist in The Royal Darwin Hospital. I have a Masters  Degree in Medical Ethics and Law with a particular interest in Justice and the fair distribution of quality healthcare to all-regardless of location or income.     Nigel is based at Lady Cilento Children's Hospital (LCCH)  in Brisbane where his research is focussed on paediatric clinical telemedicine. While broadly interested in paediatric telemedicine applications, he has a long-standing special interest in its role in neonatal and paediatric critical care settings. More generally, Nigel is interested in the nature of evidence in telemedicine. While it is not a new field, the formal evidence base remains limited. It is still unclear what constitutes useful evidence for clinicians and policy makers, how that evidence should be generated, and how it may be best disseminated to influence practice and policy.

    Nivedita Deshpande is coordinating telehealth services regionally across South East Queensland for the Institute for Urban Indigenous Health. She was also the first telehealth officer in Australia working with the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine. Nive brings with her more than eight years of healthcare experience from USA, India and now Australia. She has a Master’s in Public Heath -Health Policy & Management from the University of Pittsburgh USA and is currently pursuing her PhD in Telehealth with UQ. Her first stint with Telemedicine was with the Veterans Association of Pennsylvania when they were establishing satellite Tele-Derm locations for retired war Veterans in 2010. In her current role with IUIH she is supporting seventeen Aboriginal Medical Center’s to establish a sustainable telehealth program.

    Peter Blamey’s is the Scientific and technical lead at Blamey Saunders hears and holds an Honorary appointment at the University of Melbourne in the Faculty of Medicine. His previous research roles have been primarily in cochlear implants and bionic eye research.  His inventions are used in hearing aids, cochlear implants and headsets from major international manufacturers. In 2007, he was presented with the American Academy of Audiology’s International Award, and in 2012, Peter was awarded the prestigious Clunies Ross Science and Technology Medal for his research and development of hearing aids.
    In 2015, his work was honoured with the Australian Good Design award in Social innovation, with a highly commended in the Medical Devices Category.

    Shayne has been made an Adjunct Associate Professor Business and Law at the University of Southern Queensland, for his close working relationship with the faculty in developing a digital stethoscope that is compatible with Queensland Health’s Telehealth platform, and from mentoring students doing various research papers.

    Shayne's current Telehealth projects include Oral Health within Aged Care Faciliites, Interpreter Services and Inpatient Telehealth within Dar ling Downs Hospital and Health Service.

    Shayne believes “With Telehealth there are no Boundaries”.

    With nearly twenty years’ experience in enterprise I.T and Communications, Tim has been involved in telehealth service delivery since 2009, as a Senior Telehealth Coordinator for the Department of Health in Tasmania before moving to Townsville in 2014 to take up the Telehealth Coordinator position for Townsville HHS.

    Tim also coordinates telehealth service innovation and training activity across Northern Queensland for the newly formed Tropical Centre for Telehealth Practice and Research.
