Myra Ruka is of Māori descent with tribal affiliations to Raukawa and Ngā Puhi. She is currently working as an Advanced Haematology registrar at Waikato Hospital and plans to proceed to a doctorate degree next year. Her research interests include identifying biomedical and socioeconomic drivers of health inequities for Māori with Multiple Myeloma in the Midland cancer region where she works. She is a member of the Maori Health committee for the RACP, Member of Te Ohu Rata o Aotearoa and member of Hei Ahuru Mowai (Māori Cancer Leadership).
