Karen is an experienced human services practitioner and Manager with significant exposure across the health, disability, aged care and mental health sectors. She currently leads Vision Australia’s service engagement across Queensland, Northern NSW and NT, leading 126 specialist staff.
In addition, Karen leads the Advocacy and Engagement team of 15, and represents on national peak bodies and through media appearances on national and metropolitan channels. Karen is currently leading the organisation’s response to the NDIS and My Aged Care national reforms.
Karen has more than 20 years’ experience working in her chosen fields. Over that time she has built a solid understanding and appreciation of what is required to lead people to make a positive impact on consumers, and achieve staff and organisational results.
During her career she has provided high value to the organisations that she has worked for through strategic thinking, agility, attention to detail, willingness to share and an exemplary work ethic.
As someone who is committed to continuous improvement, Karen will complete her MBA at the University of Queensland within the next 12 months. This will combine her business and strategic skills with her human services background.
Karen is also a registered psychologist with specialisation in mental health promotion, youth suicide prevention, early intervention and child protection.
After a lifetime of blindness, Karen is motivated to inspire others to reach their full potential.
